I love my mom. Sometimes I don't think I tell her that enough, but I know that she knows. It's funny thinking about how much our relationship has changed over these past 25 years. She went from being my creator to my sole source of nourishment, my teacher (literally she was my 6th grade teacher) to my arch nemesis. I am pretty sure we fought every morning before school my freshman through junior year of high school. After I moved to college I learned to appreciate her for all she was trying to do for my in those 3 years. I got to see her in a whole new light, and she became my best friend. I know it sounds dorky to have your mom as your best friend, I mean I know she has to love me, but my mom is awesome.

My mom is extremely smart, has the most caring heart in the world, and is kind of a hottie (see exhibits A and B). I have those moments, like I'm sure most women do, where I say something or make some sort of facial expression and I immediately know that it was EXACTLY something my mom would do, but instead of cringing I am kind of relieved. I hope for my future children's sake that I turn out as good as my mom did. I LOVE YOU MOMMA!

So, I got a little Warby Parker gift card from my sis for Christmas and I STILL haven't spent it... what the what?!?! I finally got around to getting some at-home try-ons and I just cannot decide which ones I like best. Most of the time on my blog I write about fun, trivial, and simple things. This past week has really helped to put my life back in perspective. I flew home to Oklahoma last Monday to help arrange and to attend my Granddad's funeral.

I feel really lucky as far as grandparents go. I am 25 years old and I have had all 4 of my grandparents until the age of 23. My Pawpaw passed away in November 2009, and now my Granddad just last week. All of my grandparents are/were extraordinary people, and I learned something from each of them. My pawpaw was a very humble, brilliant, and loving man. He taught me how to retain your own principles without judging others.

My Granddad, on the other hand was a very principled man and he wore it on his shoulder. Everyone knew exactly what he believed in and he let you know what you should believe in. For him there was only one way to do things, the right way. Which proved to be true in his life-long hobby of building and inventing.

My granddad was also one of the biggest-hearted people I will ever know. He loved to make people laugh. One of my earliest memories of him is holding me down and drawing birds on the bottom of my feet. My grandmother thought it was torture, but it would always resort in uncontrollable laughter on my part.

He had his beliefs, but they never got in the way of helping others out. My grandparents took in countless "strays," as they called them. Most of them friends of my mom and aunts and uncles who were abused, homeless, or recovering from drugs or alcohol.

I feel blessed to have had him in my life for as long as I did. In 2006, as I was studying abroad in England, my grandparents, and most of that side of my family came to visit me. We were able to fulfill his life-long dream by traveling to the Vatican and meeting the Pope. I have never seen him happier. He was literally dancing and singing down the streets of Italy. I think that is how he will live on in my memory. I will miss him terribly, but I take comfort in the fact that his presence lives on in the lives of anyone that ever knew him.

Hello neglected blog, long time no see... Jonathan and I have been in moving mode for far too long now. The good news is that we are almost settled in! Yay! All that's left is a trip or two to goodwill and some pictures to hang! Our new place is starting to feel like home, and I really like it. I was definitely apprehensive to leave our little yellow house for apartment life, but it is treating us well so far. Our place gets lots of light, we are close to everything, and apparently I live next door to one of my co-workers, haha. I am a little distracted at the moment watching Jennifer Anniston on Rachel Ray, so I will let the pictures do the talking for me. Enjoy!

Well, in just a couple of days Jonathan and I will be moving out of our little yellow house and moving into a cute one bedroom apartment. Most people ask "why in the world would you be doing such a thing?", but we are pretty excited about it. For us, this is an opportunity to simplify life, cut costs, and travel more. We definitely caught the bug while we were in Europe and we have A LOT planned for this year. I am also looking forward to getting rid of all our old stuff and starting fresh in a new home. I love decorating and I love change... win win!

Even though we are excited about the change, that doesn't mean we wont miss this house where we made our first home together as Mr and Mrs. Here are a few of my favorite things in our home...

2010 for the win!

oh my goodness this year has flown by. Jonathan and I had a big year, and I am so excited to see what next year will bring. Since Tomorrow marks the last day of 2010 I thought it would be be a great opportunity to review some of the great things that happened to us... here it goes!

In March Jonathan and I took our annual trip Portland to celebrate the day we met/started dating. (yes, they both happened on the same day :)) The Ace Hotel is our go to place. It's great.

On that same trip I discovered my favorite little building ever!

In April we went to the Tulip Festival just outside of Seattle. It was cold, but really pretty!

In May some of my best girlfriends and I went to Vegas for my bachelorette party! Much fun was had. Wish I could say more, but as you know what happens in Vegas...

Just a few weeks after that my best friend got married on the beach in Mexico.

When I got back from that it was time to prepare for my own wedding. Jonathan and I got to spend a lot of time with family and friends. It was so much fun even Biker Fox stopped by our pre-wedding party...

Then, on June 26th we got hitched! YEAH!!!!!

Next came our honeymoon. It was an unforgettable trip, and we can not wait to go back!

After our 3 week honeymoon, it was back to work. And luckily for me that meant riding the ducks with the cutest little boy known to man :)

This Thanksgiving my mom, brother, and sister made a last minute trip to Seattle. Seattle decided to open the skies and pour down snow for their trip. I love how our house looks covered in snow...

And sadly after that, it was time to say goodbye to some of my favorite people on the planet. My nanny family went back to South Africa, but not before some quality time was had with the little bunny.

I now work for Anthropologie, and Jonathan and I are fixing to move to another place. I am a little sad to say goodbye to our first little nest, but excited for the future. We our downsizing so we can save more money to travel and adventure more. So hopefully by the end of next year I can blog about our exciting trip to South Africa, and maybe Australia. Oh, and maybe even the success of my new online print shop (coming January 2011!)

So there you have it, our year summed up. Here's to closing chapters, opening new ones, and moving forward with excitement and ambition! Salut!

So, thanks to my friend Sarah Rhoads I have a new distraction in my life. It's called Pinterest. basically it's an online storage site to put all of those loverly images you just don't know what to do with. I had started a folder on my desktop to put images from the web that inspired me, but there was no organization, and I often got tired of sorting through them all. With pinterest you can divide them up in to categories and then you have these automatic inspiration boards to look at anytime you want! Plus you can follow other people to see stuff they have found, and look at the most discussed images and pictures from all pinterest members. If I were you I would go sign up now and start growing your inspiration boards! Here is my pinterest site!

I absolutely LOVE this photo shoot of The Girls With Glasses in the newest Rue Magazine. It is so retro and cool and fantastically classy. I want to throw a holiday party JUST like it. And then it got even better when I realized the photo shoot was done at Elvis and Priscilla's honeymoon house! It doesn't really get much cooler than that. I want to go to there...

I can't believe ANOTHER Thanksgiving has come and gone! This is the first year in a long time that I was able to spend Thanksgiving with my family (minus my dad). My dad had to go out of town over the holiday so my mom, brother, and sister decided to come and visit Jonathan and I in Seattle! The day they got here it started snowing, and didn't stop until the entire city was COVERED in snow. It was beautiful, and it made their visit that much more special.

We were able to spend the week relaxing, shopping, eating, drinking, and just having fun. It was much needed.

It was also mine and Jonathan's first Thanksgiving as Mr. & Mrs. and we were able to start our own new traditions. For instance, at least 2 bottles of wine must be consumed BEFORE dinner, Beatles RockBand will be played, and Jonathan has to wear his holiday vest...

Jonathan and I are back from our European honeymoon adventure, and it was spectacular! I will be sure to post pictures as soon as we can catch up with everything else. This past week and a half has been such a haze. We have been going to bed at 7:30 and waking up at 6:00am. I think we are finally getting back on schedule, but jet lag has not been kind to us.

On another note, I am getting back into to the screen-printing studio and will be opening up shop in the upcoming month or so! I am really excited, and I will be sure to keep the blog updated with my progress. I will be starting with small prints and would like to work in some canvas bags, tea towels, and stationary sets... yay!

I had never heard of Hilda Grahnat before a couple of days ago, but I am so glad I finally did. She has a very simplistic aesthetic, and it is so refreshing to me. It inspired me in a dry (creatively speaking) spell. She combined two of my favorite things: vintage books and clocks, adorable! I also love her photography prints, and you can view those in her shop. Her banner alone is beautiful, enjoy!

I think I am going through an identity crisis. Partly because I recently changed my name, and I don't really feel like a "Shotts" anymore, but I also don't feel like a "Flint" yet. Also I am someone who changes with the seasons, and as summer slips through my fingers and fall approaches I can feel the change within me coming. Fall is the most inspiring season to me. Maybe it's because the sun isn't drawing me to be outside lounging, and I get more time to brainstorm and create. This excites me. My current job is coming to an end in November. And as sad as I will be to say "goodbye" to the family I have nannied for for 2 years, I am excited for whatever the future holds. All of this change is also terrifying. I need to figure out who in the hell I am, or who I want to be so I can take the right path... oh geez... adulthood is so not what I thought it would be like...

So here is to inspiration, and change! {and comfy sweaters and red lipstick :)}

Gosh, I am really terrible at blogging consistently. It has been a while since my last post, so that means I have lots of updates! A week or so after Jonathan and I made our coffee table and chairs, the in-laws came to town! My new mother/father/sister-in law came to stay with us in Seattle for a couple of days. Jonathan and his dad both raced in a half ironman on August 15th, so they made a little vacation out of it. Luckily our new couch cover came like 2 hours before they got to the house, so everything finally came together! I LOVE it! (I will post pictures of it soon) It was quite the ordeal to get a new cover for our couch since Ikea discontinued our model. We ended up getting a custom one from Australia... totally worth it!

Speaking of Ikea, while Jonathan's family was in town the girls took a day trip to the one in Renton. My loverly mother-in-law bought us some new plain white curtains, which look SO much better than the green ones we had, and I purchased this poster:

pretty awesome for ikea, right?! It is actually pretty huge in size, so I haven't hung it up yet. But I will post pictures of that too when we hang it up.

I am constantly on the search for more art for our walls, and lately I have been hooked on typographic prints. The Ikea one is the first one I have actually purchased, but I have many prospects. I think it is really easy to go overboard with them so I am trying to be selective, but I am left wishing for more wall space so I can have them ALL! Here are a few of my favs...

These first 2 are from Ork Posters. I saw the Seattle neighborhoods one last year, and I have been wanting it ever since. He makes these posters for a few other cities, and one for the brain and the heart. I think they are charming....

this next one is from Friends of Type. Each word was designed by a different member of their design team, and then letter pressed. I love the playfulness of the fonts, and I love the message.

This one is from Village. I first saw this one years ago on the cover of Domino Magazine and have recently rediscovered it. I want it. I wonder if its too pink for Jonathan?

DIY City!

So, Jonathan and I have been hard at work this past week. I think I have interior design ADD. I am constantly changing things in our home. Whether it is re-arranging pictures on the wall, or sanding down and painting a piece of furniture, I need change like every 6 weeks. Poor Jonathan... If it were up to him all we would have in our house is a couch, a tv, and a bed. Good thing he has a wife like me to keep him updated :).

Anyways, our latest projects have been to re-cover and paint two arm chairs in the living room, and to make our own coffee table and get rid of the ikea one that was literally falling apart. I'll start with the chairs...

These two chairs are actually part of the dining table set we bought last year, but we have been using them as side chairs in the living room. I hated that they looked so boring, and they had that vinyl seat cover that just wasn't appropriate for the living room. So, instead of spending $400 to replace them, we decided to roll up our sleeves and be pro-active...

Pretty cute, right?! I was pretty impressed with us. It was my first experience with recovering any piece of furniture. I didn't do any research on how to properly do it, so I improvised... with a hot glue gun. Haha! Don't tell anyone, ok?

And now for the coffee table! Jonathan and I have been in need of a new coffee table for about a year now. Our Ikea one had no life left in it. It leaned, had water spots all over it, and had TONS of scratches in it. It was no bueno. I could not find a single coffee table for sale ANYWHERE that I wanted to spend money on. After some discouragement, we decided that we could just make our own. We didn't have a strict plan, so we just went to the REstore and waited to be inspired. We found the window section, and our light bulb lit up! We found a wood paned window that was the right size and look, and took it home with us. I knew immediately that it would look awesome with some hairpin legs, and I knew just where to get them... hairpinlegs.com, of course :) Now for the results...

And there you have it! I am pretty pleased with how everything turned out. Now, I want to replace the curtains with just some plain white ones, and our new custom couch cover is coming the the mail next week (fingers crossed!). After that, I should be good to go for another 6 weeks...

so, i have a slight obsession with the loverly janelle monae... I first discovered her from Rifle Paper Co.'s blog, and now i am in love! I mean her music is great, but her style is ba-nanas (as the Zoe would say). It must have something to do with my current obsession of menswear on women, but I just love her style. It also doesn't hurt that she is gorgeous... Plus she performed on SYTYCD last thursday, bonus! If you haven't already, you should totally download her album, ArchAndroid, on iTunes. And if not the whole album, then at least the Tightrope song. It makes me want to boogie...

Well, well, well... Once again time is slipping through my fingers! Tomorrow marks the one month anniversary of Jonathan and I being a Mr & Mrs. Wowza! I finally got around to changing my name with the social security office, so now according to the American government I am Meghan Lee Flint. I think I like the sound of that :).

Soon I should be getting my SS card in the mail, and as soon as that happens Jonathan and I can go get our passports! I just need to get mine updated, but Jonathan has never had one before so it is kind of exciting! Even if I don't use mine as much as I'd like to, the thought of a passport that opens the door to world travel is thrilling, don't you think? Besides, we will DEFINITELY be using our passports for our upcoming honeymoon! We have finally decide on going to Europe, and now we are just narrowing down all the places we want to go to. Paris is for sure, and so is Vienna. Everything else is up for grabs. I have heard wonderful things about the Cinque Terre in Italy, and I would love to go to Greece. I guess everything depends on how much time Jonathan can get off work. Anyone have any suggestions on where to go in Europe??? We are open for suggestions!

In other news... our wedding pictures are ready!!! Carl Zoch and his wife Cara were our photographers an they did an OUTSTANDING job. If you or anyone you know is in need of an Oklahoma photographer I highly recommend them! Here are just a few of my favorites...

well, we did it!

Oh my goodness, I can't believe that it is already the middle of July! Time has seriously flown by, and now I am a Mrs! I wonder when it stops being weird introducing myself as "Jonathan's wife," or "Meghan Flint." Hmmmm, not yet!

Anyways, our time in Oklahoma was wonderful. We got to stay for 2 weeks, and it went by so fast. I got there the Tuesday before the wedding, and it is all a blur now. Lots of last minute appointments, late nights making yarn pompoms, and planning flower arrangements. We did almost everything ourselves, and I am so glad we did. We did a lot of things in an untraditional manner, and I think we had to do it ourselves to do it right.

The wedding festivities started on Friday morning with the dress rehearsal. It went really well, except for the fact that I forgot to tell my Matron of Honor about it... oops, hehe. But she managed just fine at the wedding.

Later that night we had the Rehearsal Dinner. Jonathan's family, aka my in-laws, did such a wonderful job! It was at another historical mansion right down the street from the one we got married at, and the food was amazing! There was lots of booze, and food, and really lovely people. Bob, my father-in-law, had everyone come up with a 6 word statement before the dinner. The 6 word statements were supposed to be about love, or marriage, or Jonathan and I, or just some words of wisdom. After dinner we past a microphone around the room and everyone read their's aloud to us. It was awesome! Here are a few of my favs:

After the rehearsal dinner, we went out with the wedding party to hit da club... in Tulsa... it was hilarious. And then at about 8:00am the next morning, aka the wedding day, I realized that the tequila shots and cosmos weren't the best idea... But the show must go on! And it did. We all jumped into action and did what the warboard told us to do, and by the grace of God it all came together. I'll do a "before and after" post later, but for now I will just show you some pictures from the best day of my life:

I am a lover of all types of weather, but I am craving me some summer. I want it and I want it NOW. I am really looking forward to going to Oklahoma on Tuesday so I can soak up some sunshine and some 98degree weather. I may be singing a different tune in a week and a half when I am standing outside in the middle of summer in a wedding dress, but I will cross that bridge when I come to it. Hopefully I will be so caught up in love that I wont notice the sweat dripping down my back... right?

well, the end of my Shotts days are approaching. I am so anxious, nervous, stressed, and happy all at the same time. This time in my life has also made me very nostalgic. My mom asked me to get some photos together for a little slide show we are having at the wedding. So I got out my external hard drive and started sifting through all of my pictures from college and beyond. I have to admit, I got a little teary-eyed at times. After college you lose touch with a lot of people, even though you created such a strong bond in those four years. So, because of my sentimental mood I have decided to share a few of my favorite memories with you...

i really miss crepes! (which is probably why my face looks so round in all of my europe pictures.. hehe. totally worth it.)

I mean, I am so glad and thankful for my experiences and I will cherish the memories, but life has only gotten better since then. I am about to marry the man of my dreams, and I wouldn't trade anything for what we have. Oh gosh, I better stop before I get too mushy... So to all of my college friends (if any of you read this) I love you and miss you, and hope life is well for you. And, you should totally all be at my wedding and help me throw the biggest dance party known to man!

my dream honeymoon...

ok, i have found my ideal honeymoon. Finding your honeymoon spot sounds like the most fun thing ever, but it is actually a little stressful. There are so many awesome things to do and see, and it is so hard to pick just one trip! But then I found this hotel, and I am pretty sure we were made for each other. It's outside of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico and you have to take a boat and a DONKEY to get the he hotel. AWESOME! It's in the jungle, and it has private beaches, and a spa, and cooking classes by a chef and they only use local and organic ingredients. just awesome. and look at it:

so open and fresh and simple. l-o-v-e. So my dream would be to stay there for 5-7 days, and then head into town, and stay at this loverly home:

and take in all that Puerto Vallarta has to offer...

you can also take a cooking class here, and they take you to a local market to buy all of the ingredients... yummmm....

so we would stay there, at Casa Sin Tiempo, for another couple of days and then head home. Well, as long as I am dreaming, maybe we should stop off in Palm Springs for a couple of nights at the Ace. But then go home. Yep, that sounds just about perfect!

holy moly, i have spent way to much time in airplanes lately. don't get me wrong, i love to travel. but i hate flying. which kind of gets in the way of the whole traveling thing... i have been on 12 airplanes in 3 weeks, gross! i even had to use an airsick bag once... sorry for the tmi. so let me give you a rundown of my traveling adventures...

my first trip was to Vegas, which i have already mentioned. vegas was a lot of this...

and a lot of this...

after vegas i had a few day to recover before jonathan and i headed to tulsa for 2 wedding showers, and LOTS of wedding planning. unfortunately i was really bad at taking pictures during that trip, so I will have to show you once my momma sends me some of them. It was a blast. I really wasn't expecting anyone to throw us a shower and I certainly wasn't going to ask for one, but i have amazing friends and family and they treated us so well. Wedding festivities put everyone in such a great mood, and it made me all warm and fuzzy inside to be able to share it with all (well, most) of the people I love. Plus you get lots of cool stuff!

I spent a full week in Tulsa, and then it was back to Seattle for 48 whole hours before I hopped on a plane for Mexico to be in my best friend's (pictured below) wedding!

Jonathan was unable to attend because of work, so i was forced to stay in an ocean front suit all by my lonesome... awe, don't you feel so sorry for me, haha! here is a picture of my view...

we also spent a lot of time on the beach... day and night... it was pleasant.

And now I am home sweet home, and the next time I get on an airplane is when Jonathan and I head back to Tulsa to get married! AHHH! But until then I have so so so much to do. The invitations will be put in the mail tomorrow, i know so last minute. So don't worry, it's not that I didn't invite you, I'm just super behind on everything. Sorry! Luckily I live in a place where beautiful flowers are readily accessible, and today I bought peonies to keep me sane.... ommmm....

well, it's here! me and my bridesmaids (minus my underage sister/MOH...sad...) are headed to las vegas for the weekend! I know it is a little early for a bachelorette party, but it is not easy to get your closest girlfriend's schedules to line-up... I am so so so excited to see these girls! It has been way too long, but these are the type of friends that we all just pick up where we left off. It's sure to be good good times... yippeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!

2 months to go!!! Let the count down commence!!!!

Honestly, I can't believe it is coming up so fast. When we got engaged we had practically an entire year until the wedding, and now two months?? Where does the time go? And for those of you that know me well, you know that I am just a bit of a procrastinator, so it is officially panic mode. It's going to be ok though. I workbest under pressure. Just like a diamond, right?

Anywho, I came across this invitation suite today and I just had to share it. I love the colors, the calligraphy, the die-cut, everything. I think that if there was one thing I could be better at, it would be calligraphy. It sounds kind of lame, but so does knitting, and I love knitting. I have the hobbies of an 89 year old woman...

I was totally stuck in a rut before I found this. I hated everything I was making, and just couldn't get the "feel" right. I really like this font in these colors. They make me think of a spring picnic, which is kind of what our wedding will be like.

In other wedding news, my mom is awesome! She is doing all of the leg work forme back in Oklahoma, since obviously I can't be there all the time. She has become an ebay expert/addict, and is truly the one responsible for making this wedding a reality. This is the latest project she is attempting to tackle:

i have been having all sorts of dreams about the upcoming wedding. some at night while i sleep, some during the day at work, while i drive, when i work out, right before i go to sleep, right when i wake up, and i assume you are getting the point :). not all of them are good though. i have even had a few of those dreams when it's like your late for a final, but in my case i'm late/ not prepared for the wedding. it makes me all sweaty..... but most of the time i just get these flashes or snapshots of what i imagine that day to look like, or a surge of emotions just thinking about walking down the aisle or having our first dance. i get goose bumps just typing it... AHHHH, i can't wait!!!

so for this post i am going to try and give you a little peak inside my head. don't be scared... it's a happy place. these pictures are my attempts to portray all of my wedding daydreams... enjoy!

i love 500 days of summer, and i love that jonathan loves it. this was his favorite scene from the movie. he said he like that scene because it showed perfectly how it felt when he was falling in love with me. that "floating on cloud 9" sorta of thing. awww, he loves me. and hall and oats.

spring, where are you?!

rain rain go away, please! Seattle is having very winter-like weather at the moment, and i am NOT happy about it. Especially after just getting back from sunny san diego a couple of days ago.

Jonathan and I took a trip to San Diego, and met up with his parents for the week. Usually we all go there for the Oceanside 70.3 tri-athalon that jonathan and his dad do, but unfortunately this year it sold out too fast and they weren't able to participate. So instead we got a relaxing week beachside! we shopped, and ate, and ate, and shopped. so after a week of 80 degree weather i am so so SO ready for warmer weather. but, i suppose for now i will make due with these loverly spring-like beauties...

i am in love with these rifle paper co invitations! anna bond (the genius behind it all) hand stitched all the flowers and then embellished with some paint. after making the prototype she scanned them in the computer and printed out the rest. i love how you get the hand made feel without having to actually do all the work :)

twigs and honey have been a go-to shop for me for a while now. they make absolutely beautiful hair and body adornments for women, and it never even occurred to me that they could do the same thing for men. and then i saw these puppies... i love them. they would look so good with the grey suits that jonathan and his groomsmen have picked out, and then after the wedding i get to borrow it!

operation; make house a home...

well hello there. this week has been wonderful. i have had a little time off from work, and i have focused my energy on making our house feel like a home. we have been living in this house since last june, and it felt and looked like we just moved in. we had nothing on the walls, there was no color or personality and it was driving me bonkers! but now, all of that has changed, hip hip hooray!

now, mind you, we are on a pretty tight budget right now with all of the upcoming trips, and the wedding, duh. so i had to get a little creative and re-invent some things that had been nestled away in our basement. i finally got around to framing some prints i got from etsy, and i cut some pictures out of books and had them framed too. i spray-painted random things i got from markets and thrift stores, and i bought 2 plants! they are the very first plants i have ever bought in my life, and i am kind of scared. i feel bad for them, because i will undoubtedly find a way to kill them, accidentally of course. but for now they are a loverly addition, and bring a little life to our home.

so enough talk, here are some picture i took with my new macbook pro! not the greatest quality photos, but hey, who cares...

as you can see, i am REALLY excited about the changes. maybe a little too excited...

i got some new curtains that i am still on the fence about. they are growing on me though.

and the funny little nook finally got some attention. we still have no idea why this nook is here. i have dreams of making it a cushy/comfy reading room, but for now it is the record player nook.

so yeah, like i said, not the best pictures. but you get the point. right?

and in other news, we got our first gift from our registry today! so exciting! but now this means i have to start "thank you" notes. A small price to pay for people buying you things that you really want... a price i will happily pay :)

some r&r...

yeah for mini-vacations! jonathan and i just got back for portland,OR for some much needed rest, relaxation, and voodoo doughnuts (i'll tell you what those are in just a sec). i feel like both of us have been so busy and sleep deprived lately, so we took advantage of some time off to reconnect and get away from computers and jobs. we stayed at our favorite place in portland, the ace hotel which coincidentally was filled with decor inspiration for the wedding. let me show you what i mean...

i absolutely love the lobby of the ace. open, airy, cozy and modern. my favorite part was the centerpiece on the gigantic coffee table. it was all greenery, no flowers, and it was beautiful. they had an old bell jar filled with this grassy stuff, little potted succulents, and vintage hardware. easy, and cost efficient. yeah!

i was also in love with the floor to ceiling book shelves. i have been planning on using old books as decoration for a while, but it was nice to see how beautiful they can really look. they can add a pop of color without flowers.

and of course a photo booth, duh. i am so so so so excited about having a photo booth at our wedding reception! we have stayed at this hotel once before, and one of the main reasons i wanted to go back was for this little guy. those black & white strips of pictures make me happy. i would show you the pictures we took in it, but i can't figure out how to make the scanner work. so that will have to wait for jonathan to get home and figure that out...

so like i said, we made relaxation a priority. we slept in, took naps, and spent a lot of time just lying in bed staring out the window...

but between naps, we had to eat. this is a shot from our fancy night out...

these are our not-so-fancy-meals. we took advantage of portlands vast array of food trailers and had some tasty thai food.

jonathan indulged in a "man-cake" for one breakfast. it was bigger than his head...

and then of course, we ate LOTS of voodoo doughnuts. some of their creations include the maple bacon bar, glazed buttermilk biscuit, doughnuts topped with cocopuffs and cap'n crunch, and the list goes on... all are delicious. literally the first thing on our agenda was to buy a dozen doughnuts to keep in the hotel room for snacking. yeah, it was awesome.

so that is a very short summary of our trip. we didn't take many digital pictures, but i will post some more photos i took with my holga tlr as soon as i figure out how to scan them...

holy moses, i feel like i am in the middle of the never ending week! all work and no play for this girly...

the save the dates are finished!!!!! jonathan and i stuffed and addressed them ALL, and now all that is left to do is put them in the mail. i think you're supposed to send those guys out somewhere between 4 and 6 months from the wedding, and tomorrow (the 26th) will be exactly 4 months. that's good, right? i would put up the finished product, but i kind of want them to be a surprise to the people receiving them. i will probably put up a picture next week, if i remember... ha.

so now that those are out of the way, it's time to work on the actual invitations! i am really excited about them! i have some ideas, and hopefully i can start playing around with them next weekend. here are some of my ispirations...

DIY cake stands...

i love cake stands. i am always perusing etsy.com for vintage and unique ones, and a couple of months ago i was inspired to make my own. i came across Style Gardens etsy site and saw her hand made cakes plates. after closer inspection i thought to myself, "hey, i could do that," and i did! all it takes to make an adorable cake stand is some plates, any size will do, epoxy (found at any hardware store), and some candlesticks and/or some vases. honestly, anything with a wide base will do. you just want to make sure the base is big enough to support the plate without it easily tipping over. i found all of my supplies at the local goodwill and spent a total of about $12.00 on 10 plates and 4 candlesticks (there weren't many candlesticks to choose from, and i didn't have the patience to even attempt to sort through all the vases and jars).

it's pretty self explanatory, but just to be clear i will tell you how i made mine.

Step 1: Get plates, candlesticks, and epoxy.

Step 2: Clean plate and candlestick, focusing on places where you will attach the two. Make sure they are completely dry before applying epoxy.

Step 3: You can use a ruler to find the center, but i just kinda eyeballed it... i'm not patient. but however you do it, it's nice to mark the center with a sharpie as a reference.

Step 4: Follow the instructions on the back of the epoxy to activate it.

Step 5: Use a popsicle stick or a q-tip (without the fuzzy part) to apply the epoxy to both surfaces you will be attaching.

Step 6: Place the new cake stand upside-down to dry. Depending on the epoxy it could take anywhere from 6 - 24 hours to dry.

Step 7: After the epoxy has set, voila! you have a new adorable cake stand!

Step 8: Bake something delicious to put on your new cake stand. Then eat it!

and in honor of valentines day, i made cake pops with red candy hearts! this was highly experimental, but i think they are charming.

yummy pretty cakes...

i've got cake on the brain! just researching this topic makes my mouth water. jonathan and i aren't doing a traditional cake, but are creating a whole dessert spread instead. we want tons of variety, and good 'ole homemade goodness. dessert is our favorite meal, and we feel we should just totally indulge at our wedding. after all, i will need some sweet rewards after all of my wedding diet madness (which i keep putting off and haven't started yet...).

even though we wont have the full multi-tier wedding cake, we still want that experience of cutting the cake, and then saving a slice for our one-year anniversary (even though it sounds kind of gross, i like the nostalgia of it). so our plan is to have what would be the top tier or two of a traditional cake on a cake-stand, and then put cupcakes or cakeballs below it.

i just came across this loverly image of a cake table with vintage cake toppers on each of the individual cakes. i love love love that yellow cake with the white draping! LOVE.

see how cute the red and the yellow are? i love it. i am using red and yellow in our save the dates, and invitations, and wedding decor. the only problem is that if i stare at those colors too long, all i can think of is mcdonald's or shiner bock, and that's not exactly what we are going for. that's why i had to add the minty blue color to balance it out. let's hope that it works...

and then today i found this adorable wedding in London. my absolute favorite part of that wedding is the bridesmaids outfits:

i think its the sequins and the tights that does it for me. for awhile i really REALLY wanted to wear tights with my wedding dress, but i think they might be a bit hot for an almost July wedding. and i would feel bad making my bridesmaids suffer. :)

home for the holidays...

i'm back from a week long, and much needed break! jonathan and i got to spend the first week of 2010 with our families, and it was the best way i can imagine to start the new year. we were supposed to be busy with wedding stuff, but somehow we didn't really get much accomplished in oklahoma. hmmm... the save the dates are still not completed, and we still haven't confirmed a guest list, but we've got six months... plenty of time. right? we did, however, pick out a tux for jonathan and his groomsmen. so thats something.

christmas was great, although it didn't really feel like christmas. jonathan had to work at the hospital, and i spent the day napping, reading, and knitting. but we did get to open presents after jonathan got off work. jonathan got me this awesome camera, and i am totally obsessed with it! here are a few shots i took back in oklaHOMEa:

she is adorable, and she is going to be a giant. my mom wants her to be the ring bearer at the wedding. jury is still out on that one...

i love christmas time. our little home feels so much more "home-y" with lights and a tree. here are just a few pictures i took of our cute little house.

one night i became fixated on origami cranes, and decided to make a little garland out of them. i love how it turned out.

this little poster came from the designsponge website. i printed it out, had kinkos mount it for me and then i hung it in the window. i lurve it.

on another note, i finally finished my first ever screen printing project! i was able to do half of this project during a class in a fancy schmancy studio, and the other have was done in our basement. a couple of weeks ago, jonathan helped me set up a make-shift studio downstairs, and was SO gracious to give up half of his workout room for my screen printing stuff... he is great. here is the finished product!

These were done for the capitol hill coop preschool. The little boy i nanny for goes to this school, and his mom/my boss asked me to make these as a class gift. Claire, my boss, got me everything i needed to set up my own studio, and as i trade i made these! i as SO happy with how they turned out. especially as my first project. but certainly not the last. i have already started designing our invitations, and hopefully after the new year i will be able to start printing them! so excited!

hair...

now that i don't have to worry about a dress or shoes, i have turned my attention to how i want my hair and face to look on The Day. i think i have decided to keep my bangs down for the ceremony, and then put'em back for the reception. i have a feeling there will be lots of dancing people at the reception, and i'm sure it will get a little warm in there. it doesn't matter who you are, no one looks good with sweaty bangs...

i have been surfing the internets, all of them, and here are some looks i am diggin' so far:

1) Mischa Barton. i know she is a little crazy, but there is no denying her great style.

i am not a perfectionist, and i don't like my hair to be perfect. i am a huge fan of messy looking hair.

2) Ashley Olsen. she is gorgeous.

i love that she has tin cans in her hair, just like the good ole days... the makeup in this one is loverly.

i love braids!

3) Zooey Deschanel, duh. she was the reason i got bangs in the first place, and every time i go to the hair dresser i tell her to "make me look like zooey."

again with the braids!

i love the sweet softness of this look.

and this! so natural, and retro at the same time.

just plain delightful.

those are my style muses.

but, even with all of those great looks part of me just wants to put my hair in a ponytail...

pretty pretty paper...

i didn't really know this about myself, but i have a deep love for paper. especially colorful paper pompoms hanging from trees...

i just made one of these tissue paper pompoms and used it as our tree topper (i'll post a pic later). instructions can be found on Once Wed's website.

i think that i get the most excited about our wedding when i think about all the little details that go into it. i love decorating, which is another thing i didn't really know about myself. i can just picture tons of colorful paper pompoms and streamers hanging from the trees in the courtyard at the dresser mansion, or on the alter, or hanging from the ceiling. i have to be careful not to go to far and turn our wedding into a high school prom, but i think with just the right amount it can be very pretty and whimsical. like this:

i know that my blog has been primarily about me and my looks and ideas for the wedding, but i would like to turn my attention to jonathan and what he will be wearing on our big day. i am a huge fan of the sartorialist, it is by far the most fashionable blog out there. because of that fact, i have turned to them for help in finding a look suitable (pun intended) for jonathan to wear to the wedding. here are my top pics so far:

i am so in love with the miss dior commercial by sophia coppola. it is so perfectly girly, and beautiful, vintage, and parisian. all of my favorite things all rollled into one! i love the colors, the balloons, the sunglasses, and the flowers. i just wish i could copy and paste all of that beauty and charm onto my wedding day.

thats right. champagne in a can. and not just any can, but a pretty little pink can. how perfect is that pink little straw?! i have been thinking about these for the bridal luncheon before the wedding. i think they would be a perfect pre-wedding drink with my beautiful bridesmaids!

my friend Sarah Rhoads sent me this link to some photographer friends of hers called our labor of love. she said that it reminded her of the wedding jonathan and i envision for ours, and she is SO right! there are so many things i love about this wedding, and so many things that i have been thinking about incorporating into our wedding. my favorite costume EVER was when i went as Batgirl.

i used to watch the 1960's batman tv series at my Nana's house when she babysat me. i would hope and pray to see her batgirl cycle roll across the screen in the opening sequence. that's when i knew it would be an episode with her in it. man, that was a great show. i also had a huge crush on robin. wasn't he dreamy?

i fell head-over-heels for this adorable dessert. pie?! in a jar?! yes, please! bleubirdvintage is some kind of genius, and i am glad to reap the benefits of it. i will most definitely be making some trial runs of these guys. i'm thinking peach, or maybe apple... jonathan is so lucky to have me :).

maybe if these go well, and prove to be cost effective we could use them as wedding favors. it could be super cute to create some labels with one of our engagement photos. or maybe cute little tags tied on with twine. or maybe cover the lids with fabric. the possibilities are endless!

so, i found this do-it-yourself tutorial on how to make these cute little guys here. right now our house seems very brown to me, and i was looking for an inexpensive way to add some color. they are so easy to make, and kind of addictive. i have made about a million of them (slight exaggeration), so now i am finding ways to put them to use.
the most obvious to me was to glue them to fabric floral stems and make flowers:

but i suppose you could also make christmas ornaments, use them in gift wrapping, bunting, and apparently they make great cat toys...

i know this because the other morning i found tiny little pieces of string all over the bedroom floor. i guess they dug one out of my yarn box and completely obliterated it. they are crafty little hellions.

i think next i will try to make a brooch or a necklace with the fuzz balls and maybe mix in some feathers or some vintage pins i have stored away. we shall see...

i think i like these guys enough to incorporate them into the wedding. maybe a fresh flower alternative? or have them displayed in a big glass vase? or maybe make a garland out of them? i just don't know yet...

welp, i never thought i would see the day when i would have a blog of my very own. i have been so addicted to the blog world lately, and i wanted a place to put all of the loverly things i have found, and add a few bits of my own. i guess this blog will mostly be about my wedding. well, OUR wedding, sorry jonathan... love you. but there will probably be a few random artsy craftsy things on here as well.
